Morning dates are so underrated, people. Give me coffee, pastries, your favorite person, a beautiful Greenville morning, and a camera, and I’m pretty happy gal. As a couples photographer in Greenville, SC, that’s exactly the kind of session I love capturing.
Instead of a traditional engagement session filled with static poses and perfect smiles, we planned a morning date with Liz and Michael. We started at Carmella’s Dessert Bar for coffee and pastries before heading over to Falls Park to explore, laugh, walk around, and document the rest of their morning together.
How Liz & Michael Wanted Their Couples Photos to Feel
When Liz first reached out, she told me she wanted photos that felt real. While she and Michael had recently gotten engaged, they didn’t want their session to be solely about being engaged. They wanted photographs that captured more than just this one moment in their lives.
They wanted photographs that showed their relationship.
The way they interact.
How they laugh together.
The way they naturally move around each other.
The little moments that make their relationship theirs.
They wanted photos of them. Goofy. Silly. Bright. Happy.
That description from Liz in her inquiry form immediately made me excited to photograph them.
I think this is such a beautiful way to approach engagement photos. Your engagement is a season of your life, but it’s only one part of your story together. Because, you’re still the couple who goes out for coffee. The people who make each other laugh. You’re still the two people who can turn a random Saturday morning into a really good day. Those things deserve to be documented, too.
And honestly, it was the perfect way to celebrate their engagement and everything they were truly feeling.

Liz and Michael were able to ease into the session naturally, and the result was exactly what they had hoped for. Their photos felt less like they were at a photoshoot and more like I had simply joined them for a morning date with my camera. And that’s really what I want a couples session to feel like. A date where you happen to have a photographer along.

There is something so good about starting the day slowly with your favorite person and having nowhere else you need to be. Instead of thinking about what their hands are doing or whether they’re smiling correctly, Liz and Michael could simply interact with each other.

From Coffee & Pastries to Falls Park
After coffee and pastries at Carmella’s, we headed to Falls Park for the second half of their session.
This part felt a little more like an adventure.
We ran around the park.
We walked along the paths.
Many, many photographs were taken!
We laughed.
There was lots of exploring.
And we let the session happen naturally.
Falls Park is one of my favorite locations for couples photography in Greenville, SC because there is so much variety within one relatively small area.
